Connect your database

To use Fluent, connect your data warehouse to give Fluent access to query your data. We can connect to most SQL databases, see a list of supported databases here.

Don't have your details?

If you don’t have your data warehouse credentials, share this page with your data analyst.

Getting ready to connect

To set up a new data source in Fluent, provide the credentials for a database user. Fluent will use this user to execute queries it writes against the database. The tables you can use to create datasets will be directly governed by the permissions granted to this user account.

A best practice is to create a new database user specifically to use with Fluent. Grant this new user the relevant permissions outlined here for the tables you want Fluent to query.

Connecting your database to Fluent

Go to Settings > Workspace > Data sources to create a new data source. Select your database language, give it a title and provide the relevant credentials.

When you click create, we will run checks to ensure we can connect to your database and that the database user has the right permissions.

Troubleshooting

If you see an error when creating a data source, please reach out to us. We're also sharing some common issues we've seen below and steps to resolve them.

Selected the wrong database language

Please check that you've selected the correct database language as each database type require different credentials and user permissions.

User doesn't have the right permissions

Please check that your user account has all the permissions outlined HERE. Each database language requires different permissions, so please make sure you're looking at your database language.

Your database isn't allowing connections from our IP addresses
